In 1969, ten years after the passage of the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants Act, a group of dedicated members and students set out to establish a chapter of the institute in Trivandrum. On July 12th, 1969, they convened at Hotel Xavier Annexe to initiate the process. A list of qualified members and students was sent to the headquarters on November 7th, 1969. However, initially, one member was short of the required number to form a chapter officially. The group persevered, and on May 4th, 1971, the name of the fifth member was submitted. Finally, on July 20th, 1971, the Trivandrum chapter received official recognition from the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India. The following individuals played a pivotal role in the chapter's formation: • Members: o K. Pushpangadan o K.R. Nair o R. Ramakrishna Pillai o K.M. Varghese o V. Subramanian • Student Members: o C.V. Mathews o S. Hariharasubramanian o K. Krishnamurthy o P.K. Ravindran o N. Dharmajan o K.M. Sahirsha o S. Subramania Iyer Initially, the chapter functioned from a rented space in the Utsavom Matam Building, Fort, Trivandrum. A significant milestone was achieved in 1971 when Trivandrum secured an examination center at the Kerala University office, with the Registrar serving as the supervisor. In 1976, the chapter received recognition as an official Oral Coaching Centre of the Institute. C.V. Mathews, S. Hariharasubramanian, S. Sadasivan Nair, and K.R. Chandrasekhara Pillai formed the initial faculty, offering coaching classes to students across Kerala and Tamil Nadu from 1976-77 onwards. A significant leap forward came in 1987 under the leadership of CMA N.P. Sukumaran. Through his initiative, a plot of land was purchased at Jawahar Lane, Kowdiar, Trivandrum. The foundation stone for the chapter's own building was laid by Sri CMA A.V.S. Rao, President of the Institute, on May 20th, 1987, in the presence of distinguished guests. A dedicated building committee, comprising CMA N.P. Sukumaran, CMA K. Pushpangadan, CMA A.K.S. Nair, and CMA S. Subramania Iyer, oversaw the construction of a four-storied building that was completed within a year. The new premises were inaugurated on May 21st, 1988, by Smt. K.R. GouriAmma, Hon'ble Minister for Industries, Government of Kerala. Other dignitaries present included Shri. V. Viswanatha Menon (Hon'ble Minister for Finance, Government of Kerala), CMA S. Ramanathan (President of the Institute), CMA P. Rama Krishna Pillai (Chairman of Trivandrum Chapter), and CMA S. Subramonia Iyer (Secretary, Trivandrum Chapter). The Trivandrum Chapter holds the distinction of being the first chapter in Kerala and the fifth in India to own a dedicated building, a testament to the dedication and foresight of its founding members.
